The first aid class at the 4-star hotel is finished, everyone passed, and they all know how to do the Heimlich maneuver now. :-) I enjoyed teaching the class. But it was kind of a Cinderella story in the middle of Africa. :-) Martin and I didn't jump into a pumpkin coach at tea time, but instead onto a golf cart for the ride to the lodge, then back to the classroom. At lunch the waiter at the lodge pulled out my chair and placed the napkin on my lap. Then he delivered sodas and ICE in elegant glasses, followed by the soup, main dish, and a fancy dessert. All of that took one hour as we looked over the tea fields and the rainforest beyond. Then the golf cart took us back to the classroom. :-) The students asked a lot of good questions and were interested. Of course, I started the class by telling them that this information could be used at home to save lives, not just at the hotel. I think that helped as they kept mentioning stories of what they might have done differently to help family and friends if they had known this information. Like the man who said now he wouldn’t have used a safety pin to get something out of his child’s ear, but instead take him to the healthcare center (an urgent care clinic). :-) After class they gave us a tour of the rooms. The hotel has a ½ price deal right now, so instead of $400 a night per person, I could get two nights for $400. That’s great, but I don’t have $400. But then they said I could stay one night for ½ price. Hmm, now $200, closer to my price range, but still high. They told Martin because he’s Rwandan, he could have 30% off his price. Still, the room costs more than he makes in a month. So I thought since I have a long-term visa, maybe I could get the reduced rate. The man said yes, but I’d need to check that out to be sure. If so, $140 a night with dinner and breakfast included is something I could do one time to treat myself. Maybe Cinderella could go visit her fairy tale again. :-)
